Nestled in the heart of New Delhi, Amrit Udyan stands as a tranquil oasis, offering a peaceful respite from the city’s vibrant chaos. Spanning over 15 acres, this verdant space is often regarded as the soul of Rashtrapati Bhavan. Originally comprising the East Lawn, Central Lawn, Long Garden, and Circular Garden, the garden has flourished over the years with the addition of new sections during the presidencies of APJ Abdul Kalam and Ram Nath Kovind.
Notable additions include the Herbal Gardens, Tactile Garden, Bonsai Garden, and Arogya Vanam, each contributing to the unique charm of this botanical haven.
President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the Amrit Udyan Winter Annual Edition 2025 on February 1. This year, visitors can admire 140 different types of roses and more than 80 other flowers in full bloom.

A serene escape
The park is home to a rejuvenated central water channel, a focal point that enhances the serene atmosphere of the garden. Whether taking a leisurely walk or pausing to admire the changing seasonal blooms, visitors are enveloped in an ambience of peace and tranquillity.
One of the most captivating features of Amrit Udyan is the Circular Garden, also known as the ‘Pearl’ or Butterfly Garden. This space is adorned with fragrant varieties such as Phlox, Marigold, Stock, and Pansies, offering a rainbow of colours throughout the year.
A bubble fountain at the centre, surrounded by lush greenery, adds to the garden’s grandeur. The Circular Garden is home to over 30 varieties of seasonal flowers, including towering Dahlias that grow up to eight feet high, perfectly complementing the garden’s circular walls.
A historic setting
Amrit Udyan’s proximity to the iconic Rashtrapati Bhavan, the official residence of the President of India, further elevates its splendour. The majestic Rashtrapati Bhavan provides a stunning backdrop, adding an element of grandeur to the lush landscape of the park.
According to officials, since 2022, Amrit Udyan has become a popular destination for both locals and tourists, with over 25 lakh visitors enjoying its peaceful ambience.
A visitor’s delight
Preeti, a visitor who came to Amrit Udyan with her husband, expressed her admiration for the garden’s beauty: “The atmosphere here is incredibly peaceful and refreshing. The flowers are so vibrant and captivating; they seem to change with every step you take. It’s a place where time slows down, and you can simply relax and enjoy the natural beauty around you. We were so drawn to the peaceful ambience that we’re already planning to come back. I could easily see myself visiting every day if I lived closer.”
Similarly, a group of schoolchildren visiting the garden with their teachers were equally impressed. One of the students said, “We’re so happy to be here! The flowers are beautiful, and it feels amazing to get such a close view of Rashtrapati Bhavan.
It’s like being part of a living painting. We’ve learned so much about the different types of flowers and plants, and it’s even more special to see them up close. The whole experience has been wonderful, and we’re also really enjoying the food here. It’s a perfect day out!”
Their enthusiasm highlights the educational value of the garden, offering students not only a glimpse into nature’s beauty but also a unique experience with the historical and cultural significance of the nearby Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Plan your visit
Amrit Udyan is open to the public from February 2 to March 30, between 10 AM and 6 PM, except on Mondays, which are designated for maintenance. Entry is free, and visitors can book their tickets online or offline.
A free shuttle service is available from Gate No 4 of Central Secretariat Metro Station. The entry and exit point for visiting Amrit Udyan is through Gate No 35.
The garden will remain closed on February 20 and 21 due to the Visitors’ Conference at Rashtrapati Bhavan, and on March 14 on account of Holi.
