The Delhi Police has initiated an investigation into allegations of sexual harassment against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the outgoing chief of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI).

Officials stated that statements were taken from associates of Singh and individuals working at his residence in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh.

The case is based on the statement of a girl, which led to the registration of a case against Singh under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The girl has also provided a fresh statement under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).

According to officials, the police are gathering evidence related to the case against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament (MP), and they will submit a report to the court accordingly.

As part of the investigation, a team from the Delhi Police visited Gonda and recorded statements from Singh’s associates, as well as individuals working at his residence, including his driver.

The purpose of this exercise is to collect evidence and compare the testimonies of witnesses with those of Singh and the complainants involved in the case. Due to the sensitivity of the matter, officials declined to provide further details.

In response to the allegations, several prominent wrestlers, including Olympic medalists Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia, have voiced their protest against Singh. They accuse him of sexually harassing women. (With inputs from PTI)
