City on canvas

What: Visual Art Gallery presents Naatak Marg, an exploration of the ceaseless drama that takes place on the streets of Delhi, where the audience and actors are one. The city reveals its stories wherein the streets are the stage and the actors populate it on cue everyday. Viraj Anand‘s works reflect these stories using the universal language of urbanism, artificial light and a diverse palette to capture these movements. His works are experiential, as he relooks at the city he calls home through the lens of an outsider. These perceptions mirror his hometown with a range of media including pastels, pen and ink, oil paints and linoleum prints, as an attempt to encapsulate the daily dramas that exist in Delhi.

When: December 14 – 22

Where: Visual Arts Gallery, India Habitat Centre

Humans and nature

What: Shrine Empire presents an ‘An Elegy For Ecology’ By Sharbendu De. The human-nature relationship has become central to contemporary ecological discourse. The boundaries of what is ‘human’ and what is ‘nature’ are also in question. The long isolation of nature from the social contract has led to unhealthy lives, and technocentric ravaged landscapes. Post these crises, the human species may biologically survive, but its emergent psychological and physical embodiments may leave it transformed into another ‘being.’ It is in the interstices of possible futures of the human condition that Sharbendu De locates his practice in. This body of work is a reminder that we need to reconfigure and repair our estranged relationships with nature if we are to have any hope for our futures. It may be the Zen of life.
