The teaser for Aadipurush, an epic extravaganza with big stars and a whopping budget, has had social media buzzing – but in a negative way

A single word “Disappointed” was trending on Twitter soon after the teaser for the magnum opus Aadipurush, starring Prabhas, Saif Ali Khan, Kriti Sanon and Sunny Singh was out. The movie has a budget of about Rs 500 crore, making it one of the most expensive films produced in Indian cinema.

The movie will be released on 12 January 2023 in five languages with a huge screen count all over the country.

The primary actor, Ajay Devgan, received praise and a National Award for his role in Om Raut’s last film, Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior. Thus there are great expectations about his performance in Aadipurush even though a number of Ramayan adaptations have already been seen on the big screen. The movie, which is also co-produced by Om Raut in addition to his being the director, took around a year to make.

After Brahamstra, whose success or otherwise has been a hotly debated topic, anticipation among moviegoers was high for another high-octane fictional mythological flick. However, those dreams were dashed when the teaser, which lasted one minute and 47 seconds, was released.

Though the trailer received the most views in a 24-hour period, most of the responses were unfavourable, The CGI and VFX were judged as cartoonish. Prabhas, it was felt, failed to articulate Shri Ram. Ravan, who is portrayed by Saif Ali Khan, sports a hairstyle which could not have been possible centuries ago.
The presentation was compared to the popular tv series Ramayan, Chhota Bheem, Naagin and the popular game Temple-run. Some of the scenes from the trailer are also said to be copied from Game of Thrones and Harry Potter.

Here are some reactions:
