The body of Deepak Kumar Meena, who hailed from Rajasthan's Dausa, was recovered from the forest area near a coaching institute library on September 20

The decomposed body of a civil services aspirant was discovered hanging from a tree in a forested area of northwest Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar, Delhi police said on Monday.

The deceased, identified as Deepak Kumar Meena from Dausa, Rajasthan, was found near a coaching institute library on September 20, after having been missing for several days, according to authorities.

A senior police officer indicated that it was suspected to be a suicide.

“After reviewing CCTV footage, we believe it to be a case of suicide. The investigation is ongoing,” the officer said.

Meena’s father, CL Meena, informed police that his son had come to Delhi in July to prepare for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) mains examination, having already cleared the preliminary examination.

He used to contact his family every evening, but the last call was on September 10, according to his father.

When Meena did not call between September 11 and 13, his father travelled to Delhi to look for him.

Upon reaching his son’s PG accommodation, his roommates revealed that Meena had been missing for two days. Following this, CL Meena filed a missing person report at Mukherjee Nagar police station.

During the search, Meena’s body was discovered in a forested area close to the institute where he took classes. Police suspect he had gone to the forest after attending his class.

His bag was also found hanging from the same tree, though no suicide note was recovered.

The body was handed over to his family after a post-mortem examination.
