In a major initiative aimed at improving the well-being of labourers, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday announced that the government will conduct annual health checkups for workers and their families. The administration will also issue a notification mandating rest hours from 12 noon to 3 PM to shield workers from extreme heat during peak summer months.
Addressing a felicitation programme on the occasion of International Labour Day, Gupta reiterated the BJP government’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for people who migrate to the capital in search of livelihood, as well as providing them better access to healthcare and education.
Highlighting the achievements of her two-month-old government, the Chief Minister said the health screening initiative will cover all registered workers and their families.

“In view of the rising temperatures, the government will ensure that workers are not exposed to harsh conditions. A formal order will be issued soon, mandating a break between 12 noon and 3 pm,” Gupta said.
She also listed welfare schemes already rolled out under her administration, including Ayushman Bharat for health insurance, Vay Vandana Yojana for senior citizens aged 70 and above, Atal Canteens for affordable meals, and Palna Centres for child care—each aimed at directly benefiting the working class.
