IMD predicts rain in Delhi today

The weather office said thunderstorm with rain is likely and the maximum temperature is expected to settle around 37 degrees Celsius

Delhi: The city recorded a minimum temperature of 26.8 degrees Celsius on Thursday, 2.1 degrees above the seasonal average, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The weather office has forecast thunderstorms with rain through Saturday, which may bring a slight relief from the heat.

Thursday’s maximum temperature is expected to hover around 37 degrees Celsius while the skies are likely to remain generally cloudy. The IMD also warned of very light rain or drizzle, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, dust storms, and strong surface winds ranging from 30 to 40 kmph, gusting up to 50 kmph during the afternoon and evening.

Relative humidity stood at 59% at 8:30 am.

Meanwhile, air quality in the city remained in the “moderate” category with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 167, as per data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). An AQI between 101 and 200 falls under the ‘moderate’ category, while values above 200 indicate poorer air quality.

On Wednesday evening, overcast skies were reported, and the city recorded a maximum temperature of 38.1 degrees Celsius—just below the seasonal norm. The minimum temperature had settled at 28.8 degrees Celsius, two degrees above normal, with humidity levels fluctuating between 58% and 39%.
