A Delhi Police constable allegedly shot his wife dead at their residence in east Delhi’s Vinod Nagar area on Monday, police said.
The accused constable was posted with the Anti Auto Theft Squad (AATS). Police said they received information about the incident and rushed to the spot, where the woman was found with gunshot injuries.
She was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead, officials said.
Preliminary inquiry suggests that the constable allegedly used a firearm in the shooting. The exact circumstances leading to the incident are yet to be established, and investigators are examining all possible angles, including whether there was any domestic dispute prior to the shooting.
A senior police officer said the accused has been taken into custody and his statement is being recorded. The weapon used in the incident has been seized and sent for forensic examination.
The officer added that a case has been registered and further investigation is underway. Statements of family members and neighbours are also being recorded to ascertain the sequence of events.

The woman’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Police said further details would be shared as the investigation progresses.
