Nayan Naveli Gallery will present “Heads – every face holds a story”, a group exhibition bringing together works by senior and contemporary Indian artists, at Shridharani Gallery, Triveni Kala Sangam, New Delhi, from September 17 to 23. Curated by gallerist Amrita Kochhar, the exhibition explores the human face and head as sites of identity, emotion, memory, thought and experience.
Moving beyond conventional portraiture, the exhibition looks at the face as a visual language through which artists explore expression, gesture and form. The works approach the subject through realism, abstraction, symbolism, distortion, memory and imagination.
Participating artists include Anjolie Ela Menon, Arpana Caur, G Subramanian, Gurcharan Singh, Gurpreet Kaur, Jatin Das, Jayasri Burman, Jogen Chowdhury, K Laxma Goud, Krishen Khanna, Krishnendu Porel, Maïté Delteil, Nagesh Goud, Naresh Kapuria, Nayanaa Kanodia, Ramesh Gorjala, Rameshwar Broota, Ranjeeta Kant, Sanjay Bhattacharya, Sakti Burman, Shipra Bhattacharya, Thota Vaikuntam, Vasundhara Broota and Vimmi Indra.
Several works have been created especially for the exhibition, alongside selected canvases representing the distinct artistic practices of established practitioners. The exhibition also brings together artists from different generations, offering varied interpretations of the universal subject of the human face.
Heads is being held in memory of the late Dr Manjit Kochhar, mother of Amrita Kochhar. A doctor who devoted her life to medicine, charity and service, Dr Kochhar is being remembered through the exhibition and its focus on human experience and expression.
