An inquiry revealed the possible involvement of two boys, aged about 16, who had come to the three-bed Nima Hospital around 1 am for dressing, Police said

A doctor was fatally shot inside a nursing home in Kalindi Kunj area of southeast Delhi during the early hours of the morning, police said on Thursday.

The suspects, believed to be juveniles, came seeking treatment and shot Javed Akhtar, a Unani practitioner (BUMS), at approximately 1:45 am, according to the police.

A police officer stated that Akhtar was found slumped in a chair, bleeding heavily from a head wound.

The investigation pointed to the involvement of two boys, both around 16 years old, who had arrived at the three-bed Nima Hospital at about 1 am for wound dressing, the officer explained.

One of the boys had a bandaged toe and had visited the hospital the previous day as well, it was revealed.

After their dressing was completed, the boys entered Akhtar’s cabin.

Sometime later, nursing staff members Gajala Parveen and Mohammad Kamil heard a gunshot. Parveen rushed to the cabin and found Akhtar motionless, sitting in a pool of blood.

The officer suggested that this appears to be a targeted killing, as it seemed unprovoked and involved prior planning.

Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the reception area, dressing room, and hallway of the facility for further evidence.
