A man in Delhi’s Najafgarh area orchestrated a fake accident to falsely claim a Rs 2 crore insurance payout for his son’s alleged death, Delhi police said on Monday.
On March 5, a PCR call reporting an accident was received at Najafgarh Police Station, officials stated.
According to police, the complainant, Satish Kumar, alleged that his son, Gagan, suffered head injuries in a bike accident and was taken to a local hospital for first aid.
“However, both the complainant and his son left the police station without filing a written complaint or obtaining a medico-legal case (MLC) report,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Ankit Singh.
On March 11, when police followed up, Kumar claimed that Gagan had passed away on March 6 and was cremated at Garhganga in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, without informing the authorities or conducting a post-mortem.
A day later, Kumar lodged a complaint on March 12, accusing the Investigating Officer (IO) of negligence for not registering a fatal accident case.
However, discrepancies soon emerged during the investigation.
“We examined CCTV footage from the alleged accident site and found Gagan and another individual deliberately staging the accident,” said the DCP.
Upon questioning, Kumar and an advocate, Manmohan, admitted to fabricating the death with Gagan’s involvement, he added.
Investigators also found that a doctor had inflicted a minor head injury on Gagan before the staged accident to make the claim appear authentic.
The elaborate fraud was aimed at securing a Rs 2 crore insurance payout in Gagan’s name, issued on February 13. Police also discovered that Gagan was never cremated in Hapur, as Kumar had claimed.

Kumar, lawyer Manmohan, and the doctor have been arrested, officials confirmed.
Following the revelations, an FIR was registered on March 25 under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) related to fraud and conspiracy. Police are now analysing call detail records (CDR) of the accused as part of the ongoing investigation.
