Delhi: A 35-year-old man was fatally stabbed in Delhi’s Bawana area during a suspected robbery attempt late on Sunday night, police said on Monday.
The victim, identified as Mustafa, a resident of JJ Colony in Bawana, was attacked while returning home from work with a colleague, Noor Alam.
According to a senior police official, information was received at the Bawana police station about Mustafa being admitted to Maharishi Valmiki Hospital with a stab injury. However, due to the severity of his wound, he was referred to Dr BSA Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. A post-mortem examination has been ordered.
During the preliminary inquiry, Noor Alam told police that the two had finished work in Sector-3, Bawana, and were walking home when they were confronted by five unidentified men near N-18 in the DSIIDC Bawana area.
“The suspects tried to rob them. When Mustafa resisted, one of the attackers stabbed him. Noor Alam, with help from local residents, rushed him to hospital,” the officer said.
While the incident was initially treated as a targeted assault, police now believe it was a robbery attempt gone wrong. Though no belongings were taken, officials suspect that Mustafa’s resistance led to the stabbing.
