Delhi: Two men have been arrested in connection with the murder of a 22-year-old woman whose body was found in the Najafgarh drain in Dwarka, police said on Thursday.
The accused, identified as Zubair (27) and Asif (26), are both residents of Sunder Nagri in Delhi. According to officials, Asif had known the victim, Komal, for around 12 years.
On March 12, Asif, who works as a cab driver, picked up Komal from Seemapuri. The two got into an argument after he accused her of being in a relationship with someone else. The altercation escalated, and Asif allegedly strangled her inside the car. Seeking assistance in disposing of the body, he contacted Zubair. Together, they tied a rock to her body and dumped it in the Najafgarh drain.
The crime came to light on March 17 when locals discovered a bloated body floating in the drain and alerted the police. Upon investigation, the body was identified as Komal, who had been reported missing from Seemapuri on March 13.
Following a probe, police arrested Asif and Zubair on March 20.

Komal’s family has demanded the death penalty for the accused. Her mother, Anita, who resides in Chandigarh, stated that Komal lived with her grandmother in Nand Nagri, where Zubair was a neighbour. She added that Komal had previously worked as a civil defence volunteer and was employed in Nirman Vihar at the time of her death.
Komal’s grandmother, Bimla, insisted that she had never seen Komal with either of the accused and denied any knowledge of a relationship between them. She asserted that Komal had been kidnapped.
The family has accused the police of not acting swiftly but ruled out any communal angle in the case. They continue to seek the harshest punishment for the accused.
