A 15-year-old boy, along with a companion, has been taken into custody for the suspected murder of his 77-year-old grandmother in the Shahdara area. Authorities reveal that the motive behind the crime was an attempt to steal money from the elderly woman’s residence.
The police successfully recovered the stolen amount of Rs 14,000 from the primary suspect. The tragic discovery of the deceased woman was made in her GTB Enclave home on Thursday evening. Initially thought to be a natural death by her husband, suspicions arose when relatives pointed out an injury mark on the right side of her forehead.
Upon closer examination, it was revealed that cash was missing from the couple’s locker. The elderly man promptly reported the incident to the police. Subsequent investigations uncovered that the grandson, a 15-year-old student in Class 9, and his friend had visited the house on Thursday when the victim was alone.
Under questioning on Friday, the main suspect confessed to the crime, leading to his apprehension. According to his statement, he and his friend entered the house with the intention of stealing cash. Upon finding his grandmother on the bed, the main accused allegedly smothered her face with a blanket and struck her head with a blunt object. The duo carefully staged the murder to make it appear natural.
The primary suspect, who resides with his parents in the same locality, confessed that the stolen cash was intended for personal enjoyment. Authorities have also taken the 15-year-old friend into custody from the same area in connection with the crime. (With inputs from PTI)
