A 22-year-old married woman sustained severe injuries on Sunday in northeast Delhi’s Shastri Park area after an altercation with an acquaintance led to multiple stabbing incidents, police said.
The victim, identified as Hasmat Jahan from Shastri Park, is currently receiving medical care at a hospital. The accused has been arrested on charges of attempted murder, according to authorities.
The incident occurred near Buland Masjid, where the accused, Shah Babu (23) from Kishanganj, Bihar, had come to meet Jahan, a police official disclosed.
“At approximately 3.25 pm, we received a PCR call regarding a woman being stabbed,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (northeast) Joy Tirkey said.
“Jahan suffered multiple stab wounds to her head, face, and hands. Initially treated at Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital, she was later transferred to GTB Hospital. Her condition is stable. Shah Babu was apprehended at the scene, and the knife used in the crime was confiscated,” added the DCP.
The woman’s husband, Mohammad Munna, works as a tailor, said police.
Investigators stated that the accused and victim were acquainted from their time as neighbors in Kishanganj, Bihar, prior to Jahan’s marriage.
“Jahan married Mohammad Munna four months ago. Shah Babu was discontented with her marriage. The accused, who was employed as a tailor in Hyderabad, visited Delhi to meet her. During their interaction, he became enraged and resorted to multiple stabbings,” said DCP Tirkey. (With inputs from PTI)
