Delhi: A fire broke out in a four-storey building in Delhi’s Seelampur area early Tuesday morning, though no casualties were reported, officials said.
The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) received a call at 2:32 AM regarding a blaze in a building located in Chauhan Banger. Seven fire tenders were rushed to the spot.
“The ground floor housed a jeans showroom, while the upper floors were residential. The fire was brought under control by 8:05 AM,” a DFS official said.

Delhi, home to over 1.6 crore people as per the 2011 Census, remains India’s second-most populous metropolitan area. As the city continues to expand rapidly, the need for safe and regulated residential infrastructure has become critical. However, data from DFS and recent incidents highlight widespread lapses in fire safety compliance.
DFS records reveal that 164 cooperative group housing societies (CGHS) in Delhi are currently operating without valid Fire Safety Certificates (FSC). In 2025 alone, 37 applications for FSCs were rejected, following 88 rejections in the previous year.
According to the National Cooperative Database, Delhi has 898 registered CGHS, indicating that around 18.2% of them currently lack the minimum required fire safety safeguards.
The Seelampur incident adds to growing concerns about structural and fire safety in densely populated urban areas. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
