The Delhi government has granted an honorarium of Rs 1 crore to the bereaved family of a nurse who tragically lost her life to COVID-19 while bravely serving as a frontline warrior during the pandemic.
The Health Minister of Delhi, Saurabh Bharadwaj, personally met with the family of Gayatri Sharma on Tuesday. Gayatri had been working as a nurse (ANM) at GTB Hospital since 1998 and had been set to retire in January 2024. She had been diligently fulfilling her duties at the Ghazipur Health Centre when the COVID-19 pandemic struck.
Minister Bharadwaj acknowledged Gayatri’s unwavering commitment to public service throughout her many years in the health department.
He expressed that although it is impossible to measure the true value of her life, this honorarium serves as a tribute from the Kejriwal government, recognizing the sacrifices made by the brave Corona warriors.
Gayatri Sharma is survived by her husband, Yajnadatt Sharma, as well as a son and a daughter. Her daughter, Megha, is currently pursuing post-graduation, while her son, Gautam, is studying at Hindu College, according to an official statement released by the health department. (With inputs from PTI)
