A Delhi Police assistant sub-inspector (ASI) allegedly shot himself with his service weapon at his residence in east Delhi’s GD Colony on Monday morning, officials said.
The ASI, identified as Lalit Sirohi, is currently posted at the Usmanpur police station. He was found seriously injured and bleeding by his wife, who returned home after dropping their children to school. He was immediately taken to Lal Bahadur Shastri (LBS) Hospital for treatment.
“Sirohi was living in a rented accommodation — Flat No. 21, GD Colony — with his wife and two children,” a senior police officer said. “When his wife came back in the morning, she found him lying in a pool of blood, with a pistol nearby.”
The room where the incident occurred was reportedly locked and remains to be examined. Police are yet to confirm whether the weapon used was a government-issued pistol.

According to a preliminary inquiry, Sirohi had been battling depression for the past two to three years. Officials said a clearer picture would emerge following a detailed forensic examination of the scene.
