The Delhi Police on Friday suspended a sub-inspector for allegedly interfering with a few people offering namaz on a road in north Delhi’s Inderlok area on Friday, police said.

The incident occurred during the ‘Asar ki namaz’ around 2 pm near Inderlok Metro Station.

Locals responded by blocking the road and demanding action against the officer, prompting increased security measures in the area to maintain law and order.

The incident was reportedly captured on video and has since circulated widely on social media platforms.

The video depicted a sub-inspector disrupting individuals as they prayed on the road.

“In response to today’s incident, the police post in-charge seen in the video has been suspended with immediate effect. Necessary disciplinary measures are also being implemented,” stated Deputy Commissioner of Police (north) M K Meena.

Following the incident, the police promptly launched an investigation after becoming aware of the video, Meena confirmed.

Earlier in the day, the DCP met with protestors and assured them of swift and strict action against the accused, according to an official statement.

The Delhi Congress condemned the incident, describing it as “shameful” in a post on X.

“Very shameful! @DelhiPolice’s officer is disrupting people offering namaz on the road. What could be more shameful than this?” the party said in a Hindi-language post. (With inputs from PTI)
