In view of Republic Day celebrations, the historic Red Fort in Delhi will remain closed to visitors and the public for twelve days, from January 20 to 31, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) announced on Tuesday.
In a communique, the ASI Delhi Circle stated that it had received an order (F.38/34/2018-M-2829) dated December 13, 2024, from the Director (Monument-II). The order informed about the closure of the Red Fort for visitors during the Republic Day celebrations and the Bharat Parv event organised by the Ministry of Tourism.
An earlier letter from the Director (Monument-II) to the Superintending Archaeologist emphasized that the Ministry of Tourism had approved the proposal to host Bharat Parv at the Red Fort from January 26 to 31, 2025, under the same terms as previous years.

The venue would be provided from January 14 to February 4, 2025, for preparations and dismantling. Additionally, the Superintending Archaeologist was appointed as the Nodal Officer for the event.
A separate order communicating the closure of the monument to the public and visitors from January 20 to 31, 2025, was also mentioned in the communique.
Every year, the Prime Minister of India hoists the tricolour and addresses the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort as part of the Republic Day celebrations.
The 75th Republic Day will be celebrated with tight security arrangements at the Red Fort. To enhance its appeal, the fort will also be illuminated by the ASI in the evenings.
