Thespis, widely regarded as India’s first micro drama festival, is set to make its return to the national capital on February 2 with a lineup of 30 captivating plays.
Since its inception, the festival has grown significantly, drawing over 250 entries annually from across the country. Now in its fourth edition, Thespis will feature 30 plays performed in various Indian languages, all condensed into engaging 10-minute acts packed with emotion, drama, and creativity. Organised by ‘Vriksh the Theatre,’ the event will take place at the LTG auditorium.
“I have had the honour of serving as the Festival Director for all three editions from 2017 to 2019. Each edition was a groundbreaking achievement, introducing a fresh format to Indian theatre and earning widespread acclaim for its innovative approach. We are thrilled to announce that the festival has already secured two ‘Best of India’ records for its exceptional contributions to the arts,” said Abhilash Pillai, the festival’s director, in a statement.

As in previous years, cash prizes will be awarded across ten categories, including Best Production, Best Script, Best Direction, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Technician. The top accolade, Best Play, will come with a cash prize of Rs 50,000. Thespis has become a crucial platform for theatre groups, offering national recognition while nurturing and celebrating emerging talent.
