Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday announced that all Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) employees, from the highest officials to the peons, received their salaries on the first day of the month.
In a Hindi tweet, the AAP chief took a jibe at the BJP, stating that his government achieved what the BJP couldn’t in 13 years, accomplishing it within just five months.
The AAP ended the BJP’s 15-year tenure in the MCD after winning the December 4 civic polls. Kejriwal highlighted that it was the first time since 2010 that everyone in the corporation, from the commissioner to a peon, from a sweeper to a teacher, and from a gardener to a DBC worker, received their salaries on the first day of the month. He credited this achievement to the honest AAP government’s presence in the corporation.
Delhi’s mayor, Shelly Oberoi, also confirmed that the sanitation workers’ salaries for June were credited on July 1, something that had not happened during the BJP’s 15-year rule.
It is worth noting that the BJP controlled the MCD from 2007-2012 and 2012-2022. In 2012, the unified MCD was divided into North, South, and East Delhi municipal corporations, but they were merged back into a single entity in May 2022.
