Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre (RGCI) has installed a Made in India surgical robotic system created by SS Innovations with a new cutting-edge medical technology that will enhance the convenience for patients to access robotic surgery
The statement released by RGCI stated that the surgical robotic system named SSI-Mantra is the first-ever made in India device designed by an Indian med-tech start-up.
SSI-Mantra is a brainchild of robotic cardiac surgeon Dr Sudhir P Srivastava, who will be signifying the beginning of a new era of surgical procedures in India, making robotic surgery accessible and affordable for the people of the nation.
The two pilot projects, led by Dr Sudhir Rawal and his team from RGCI effectively performed a total of 26 surgeries with the device that validated its safety, feasibility and efficacy. Now, “the robot is now ready to provide an advanced method of surgery, which will be accessible to the general public at a much lower cost,” SS Innovations said.
Presently, RGCI has 302 beds and a state-of-the-art facility for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. The Institute, which has proved its capability and excellence, has so far registered more than 2 lakh patients, from India and abroad. RGCI is a visionary project of the Indraprastha Cancer Society and Research Centre that envisions to provide the best facilities for oncological care to the patients who are in need of it.
