A total of 1.67 lakh commuters used the facility in July, while the numbers were 4.96 lakh in August, 8.52 lakh in September, 12.65 lakh in October, 13.34 lakh in November and 6.81 lakh till December 12

In the last six months leading up to December 12, officials announced that over 47 lakh commuters have utilised the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) for their travels on the Delhi Metro.

The NCMC, initiated on June 5, has seen approximately 47.97 lakh commuters leveraging its services by December 12, as reported by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). Notably, the month of November recorded the highest number of passengers using this system.

Breaking down the usage data, the figures reveal that 1.67 lakh commuters used the facility in July. Subsequently, the numbers surged to 4.96 lakh in August, 8.52 lakh in September, 12.65 lakh in October, 13.34 lakh in November, and 6.81 lakh up until December 12.

Officials clarified that the NCMC serves as an open-loop card allowing users to pay for metro travel charges, toll taxes, parking fees, and retail payments. Conversely, the SV-2 card operates as a closed-loop system, exclusively applicable within the DMRC.

The indigenously-developed NCMC, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March 2019, facilitates the payment of various transport charges, including those for metro and bus services nationwide, using a unified card.

Earlier, Modi inaugurated the NCMC services on the Airport Express Line on December 28, 2020.

The expansive DMRC network currently spans nearly 392 km, encompassing 286 stations, including the Noida-Greater Noida Metro Corridor and the Rapid Metro in Gurgaon.(With inputs from PTI)
