Artist Kavita Singh Kale is all set to showcase her art series, “Inside-Outside”, at the Visual Arts Gallery, India Habitat Centre in Delhi from December 23 to December 29, 2023. This exhibition promises a captivating journey through the emotional landscape of the pandemic, offering a beacon of hope amidst turmoil.
A graduate of the National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad, and the College of Art, Delhi University, Kavita Singh Kale’s diverse artistic repertoire spans filmmaking, illustration, and contributions to over fifty children’s books and animated films.
“Inside-Outside” emerged as Kavita’s response to the unforeseen challenges of the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns. Exploring abstract emotions within her immediate surroundings, the series became her personal odyssey, delicately navigating society’s collective experiences during this unprecedented phase.
“During the lockdown, art became my refuge,” Kale shared. “It became a daily practice, compensating for the lack of social interaction and nurturing my mental well-being.”
In her latest series titled “Brutal”, Kavita delves into an inner state of conflict, drawing inspiration from Indian miniature paintings. “It’s an attempt to reinterpret historical gore events with a contemporary fierceness,” she explained. “I portray myself as a warrior, inviting viewers to interpret these drawings from a different perspective, symbolizing the internal struggle against odds.”
Beyond the realm of art, the “Inside-Outside” series aims to explore the mental health benefits of drawing and painting, aligning itself with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal #3 on Mental Health and Well-being. Kale’s endeavour seeks to become a beacon of hope, emphasising art’s therapeutic power and nurturing collective dialogue on well-being.
