The 8th edition of Novembre Numérique, a global digital art festival, is underway across 15 Indian cities, including New Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Kolkata, Bhopal, and Bengaluru. Organised by the French Institute in India and the Alliance Francaise Network, the festival runs until November 30, 2024.
Since its inception in 2017, Novembre Numérique has explored the intersections of contemporary art, technology, and digital culture. This year’s edition includes exhibitions, workshops, and virtual reality (VR) experiences, showcasing a range of digital innovations from immersive theatre to augmented reality (AR).
One of the highlights is the ‘Looki Look’ exhibition by French artist Aurélien Jeanney. Presented at all 15 Alliance Française branches, the exhibition integrates AR with artworks, offering an interactive experience through the Maison Tangible App. Visitors can hover over artworks to bring them to life, revealing scenes from flower markets to temples. Jeanney will also conduct workshops in several cities, including Pune, Ahmedabad, and Bengaluru.
Another key feature is ‘Francophonie in All Its Forms’, a sound and visual AR installation by Elsa Mroziewicz, Cécile Palusinski, and Amélie Weigel. This exhibition celebrates Francophone diversity through artistic panels representing regions such as the Indian Ocean.
The festival also includes VR experiences, allowing participants to engage with renowned works like Monet’s water lily garden and landmarks such as the Notre-Dame Cathedral. Highlights include “1, 2, 3 Bruegel!”—a VR journey inside Pieter Bruegel the Elder’s painting Children’s Games—and “The Water Lilies,” which immerses audiences in Claude Monet’s garden at Giverny.
