Thunderstorm, rain forecast for Delhi; AQI remains ‘satisfactory’

The weather office has forecast a thunderstorm accompanied by rain during the day

Delhi is likely to witness a thunderstorm accompanied by rain on Monday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

The city recorded a minimum temperature of 23.9 degrees Celsius, 1.7 degrees below the season’s average, while the maximum is expected to hover around 35 degrees Celsius. Humidity was 87 per cent at 8:30 am.

The national capital’s Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 79 at 9 am, placing it in the ‘satisfactory’ category, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). An AQI between 51 and 100 falls in this range.

On Sunday, Delhi had logged a maximum temperature of 34.4 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 25.1 degrees Celsius, 0.5 degree below normal. Relative humidity was 80 per cent at 5:30 pm.

Weather conditions remained mostly dry across the NCR on Sunday, with only light, scattered rainfall in parts of the city. The Ridge recorded 5.7 mm of rain till 8:30 am, while Mayur Vihar and Pitampura reported 16 mm and 1.5 mm, respectively. No rainfall was recorded at Safdarjung, Palam, Ayanagar, Pusa, Najafgarh and Janakpuri stations.

The AQI stood at 74 at 4 pm on Sunday, also in the ‘satisfactory’ range, CPCB data showed.
