The marathon is an effort to spread awareness and fight gender-based discrimination, along with the growing injustice against women in the capital city.
It will be a platform to speak out against misogynist practices in public and at home.
“The advance booking for the event has been good and this level of participation for such a noble cause makes you happy on a personal level,” said Naresh Kumar, event organiser.
He went on to explain how the marathon aims to help people realise that “justice is not to be found in revolution, but in evolution, even though concord violence has always achieved only destruction”. “The binding of passions, not building. The buildup of hatred and devastation, not their pacification,” he added.
The event will include five runs from 5.00 am to 9.00 am on Sunday, with varying runtimes and distances to cover. The inaugural race will be a 21-kilometer half marathon open to men and women aged 18 to 65, divided into three age groups: 18 to 30 years, 31 to 45 years, and 46 to 65 years.
The following races are the 10 kilometer Women’s Safety Run, the 5 kilometer Powerful Women’s Run, the 5 kilometer Equality Run, the Fun & Walk Run, and the 1 kilometer Kids Run. Participants will get a participation certificate, a dry fit t-shirt, medals, as well as breakfast and drinks.
