Witness 'SAMAGATI,' an exploration of unity and spiritual essence through dance

Dancer Choreographer Geeta Chandran will showcase her latest work, ‘SAMAGATI’, choreographed by the Natya Vriksha dance collective. The performance is scheduled to take place from 7 pm onwards on Monday, December 11, 2023, at  Chinmaya Mission Auditorium, located at 89, Lodhi Estate, New Delhi.

The term ‘SAMAGATI,’ derived from Sanskrit, encapsulates the concept of “coming together”, “union”, and “progressing together”. Geeta Chandran’s choreographies in ‘SAMAGATI’ explore these themes along with the fundamental principles of Sanatana Dharma: Dharma, Artha, Kaama, and Moksha.

The evening’s performance will commence with a Nritya Stuti, paying homage to Shiva and symbolising Shiva as the culmination of the five elements constituting creation. Geeta Chandran’s modern interpretation of Dharma emphasises environmental consciousness, aiming to prevent catastrophic climatic shifts that threaten life.

Expressing her perspective, Geeta Chandran said, “Dance, to me, is both prayer and message. My prayers must be imbued with deeper meaning”.

Geeta Chandran is a distinguished dancer, choreographer, and educator, known for her contributions to Natya Vriksha. She has showcased her artistry extensively across India and internationally. Acknowledged for her contributions, Geeta has received the Padmashri civilian honour and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, the highest recognition for dance in India.
