ASAVARI will present “Sumang: The Unison of Souls”, a dance production curated by Suparna Singh and Mahima Satsangi, both disciples of Padmashree Guru Shovana Narayan. Scheduled for 7:00 PM on Wednesday, November 20, at the Stein Auditorium, India Habitat Centre, the performance is designed to explore the spiritual and emotional depths of human connections.
Prominent figures including Amita Prasad Sarabhai, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Culture; Pranaame Bhagawati, Director of Kathak Kendra, New Delhi; Sachchidanand Joshi, Member Secretary of the IGNCA; and Padma Bhushan Raja Reddy are expected to be present.
Guru Shovana Narayan expressed her pride in her disciples, saying, “I am so proud of my two disciples, Suparna Singh and Mahima Satsangi, who are not only skilled dancers but who also have conceptualised the evening’s program, showcasing the depth of their thinking and immersion in Indian philosophy”.

“Sumang” unfolds through four acts, each symbolising a different dimension of human connection. The first act, “Pratibimb”, delves into the deep bond shared between confidants, exploring themes of self-discovery and personal growth. The second act, “Alingan”, is inspired by the divine unity of Shiva and Shakti, celebrating the inner balance of consciousness and energy. The third act, “Sarvagya”, pays homage to the sacred relationship between teacher and disciple, focusing on spiritual growth and guidance. The final act, “Samagam”, celebrates the universal interconnectedness of all beings, embracing a collective harmony and shared energy.
Reflecting on the meaning behind “Sumang”, the production team emphasised its intention to inspire audiences to contemplate their own relationships and the shared bonds that connect all people. With intricate choreography, evocative music, and vivid visuals, the performance invites viewers on a journey of unity, support, and spiritual connection.
