A new exhibition titled Summer Art Show will open on May 24 at Method, an art space located in Defence Colony. Curated by Srila Chatterjee of Baro Market and Sahil Arora of Method, the month-long show brings together the work of over 50 artists from across India, with a focus on accessibility, variety, and storytelling.
This is the first time Chatterjee and Arora are collaborating on a curatorial project. Their aim, they say, is to break the notion that art is only for a few. To support that goal, the exhibition includes a special “Collector’s Corner,” where certified artworks by prominent artists will be available at affordable prices, starting at Rs 3,000 and going up to Rs 3 lakh.
The show features a wide mix of styles and traditions, ranging from folk art and classical techniques to more experimental and contemporary practices. Among the artists on display is National Award-winner Anwar Chitrakar, who blends traditional Bengal Pattachitra and Kalighat styles with modern themes. Also featured is Banoo Batliboi, known for transforming old and abandoned books into delicate paper sculptures using only folding techniques.

Ayesha Broacha presents playful and emotionally resonant pieces inspired by her everyday experiences. Her work, often humorous and deeply personal, focuses on the lives and roles of women. Gitanjali Das, one of the few female artists practising Oriya Pattachitra, contributes intricate paintings on silk fabric and palm leaves, drawing from mythology and nature.
The show also includes calligraphy by Ahmedabad-based artist Hiral Bhagat, who works with Gujarati script, and richly detailed Mata ni Pachedi artworks by Sanjay Chitara and his sons, a tradition from Gujarat that once served as mobile shrines for those not allowed into temples. Contemporary artist Vikalp Mishra presents a new series of watercolours reflecting on unconventional beauty, while Hardev Chauhan’s paintings explore the relationship between agriculture and society, using crops such as cotton, wheat, and maize as visual metaphors.
Aman Kumar, influenced by his grandmother’s weaving, uses acrylics and layered textures to evoke the feel of fabric and explore everyday scenes. Meanwhile, Deepshika Khaitan’s intricate compositions in pen, ink, acrylic, and gold leaf capture the layered histories and architecture of modern cities, combining Indian and Western influences.
The exhibition opens to the public on May 24 at 6 PM and will run daily from 12 PM to 8 PM until June 22. Entry is free and open to all.
