The Shri Ram Centre for Performing Arts will present the 27th edition of the Swami Haridas Tansen Sangeet Nritya Mahotsav from January 9 to 11, at Shankar Lal Hall, Modern School, Barakhamba Road. The three-day festival celebrates India’s rich classical music and dance traditions, bringing together maestros and performers of national and international acclaim.
The festival opens each evening at 6 PM and features performances by luminaries including Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia (Flute), Begum Parween Sultana (Vocal), Ashwini Bhide Deshpande (Vocal), Pt Ulhas Kashalkar (Vocal), Ustad Shujaat Khan (Sitar), Pt Vishwamohan Bhatt (Mohan Veena), and Pt Salil Bhatt (Satvik Veena) accompanied by Manganiyars from Rajasthan. Dance enthusiasts will be treated to performances by Uma Sharma and her disciples in Kathak, while Ustad Amaan Ali Bangash (Sarod) and Pt Rahul Shivkumar Sharma (Santoor) will round off the musical offerings.
Organised under the guidance of Padma Bhushan Uma Sharma and Vinay Bharat Ram, the festival honours the legendary Swami Haridas and Tansen. It has grown over the years to become a platform for India’s classical music and dance, inspiring younger generations through the intimate Mehfil Andaaz, which replicates the traditional guru-shishya parampara.
Speaking about the festival, Uma Sharma said, “While today’s youth gravitate toward Western and pop music, it’s imperative to preserve and promote the timeless legacy of Indian classical arts. This festival aims to inspire the next generation to cherish our musical heritage.”

The festival is supported by Bhartiya Sangeet Sadan (Uma Sharma School of Dance & Music), HCL, Indian National Theatre Trust, Modern School, and SRF Ltd. Admission is free, and enthusiasts can collect invitation cards from Shri Ram Centre for Performing Arts, Mandi House, or Uma Sharma Dance School, 52 Community Centre, East of Kailash.
