This casual and chic version of the United Coffee House has more than 300 dishes on its menu
Here the classic gets a new twist with pleasant and delicious surprises. United Coffee House REWIND, is a chic, smart and casual avatar of the United Group’s flagship restaurant United Coffee House (UCH) in Connaught Place, holding fort since 1942. Located in the happening food destination, DLF Cyber Hub in Gurugram, ‘Rewind takes the UCH journey forward by creating a culinary culture unique to it. It is a warm, inviting space where you can linger on with friends or family for hours or dash back to work post a quick, refreshing meal.
The restaurant has an old-world charm because of its décor, enhanced with that has period graphics and artefacts. The flooring has a combination of Victorian tiles and timber that lend a warm feel. We were made comfortable, as we sunk into the sofas and table tops lined with colourful tiles. The bistro-like atmospherics and an open kitchen had us all set for our exclusive Rewind experience.
Showcasing the legacy of the United Coffee House, Executive Chef Priyam Kumar has chalked out the menu in such a way that it has all the signature dishes of the UCH, plus a lot of innovative items, giving diners a menu of no less than 300 dishes.
Start with soup and salads –Take your pick from western or oriental soups to classic salads. Quinoa Tabbouleh and ‘Wholesome Arugula are the stars of the salad menu and are not to be missed. For me, ‘Burmese Khao Suey was the best way to start my meal and Chef Priyam makes sure he satisfies all his diners by offering it in three variants: prawn, chicken and vegetarian.
Then we moved on to small and large sharing plates options, as they exhibit a culture that Rewind wants to promote. “There’s something for every group and for every individual too! While the small sharing plates give you an option to enjoy many dishes at a go without having to worry about getting too full or just a small portion of your favourite dish, they also attempt to connect with the younger patrons with a unique and quirky presentation. To promote group dining, the large sharing plates are for bigger groups and for those who want to opt for multiple gastronomical experiences,” informs Akash Kalra, the third generation restaurateur and founder of UCH Rewind.
There is a vast array of interesting appetizers, ranging from tikkas to Chinese finger food. We loved Pao Bhaji Fondu, an interesting twist to the usual pao bhaji, which was delicious. Darjeeling Roast Chilli Pork, South Hall Fish Fingers, Amritsari Fish and Korean Style Chicken Wings are a treat for non-vegetarians.
Mains give a plethora of regional Indian choices, ranging from Punjabi to Konkani. There is also a decent mix of South East Asian and Asian specialties. I love their bowl meals that are pocket-friendly and served quickly. The Continental section has a wide variety of comfort classics – like risotto, lasagna, pasta and sizzlers. There is also a Savouries section that presents delightful British club food with signatures from Gymkhana, Cricket Club and others like pies, rolls, cutlets, chops, schnitzels and more.
Closer rooted to Indian food in the Savouries section is popular street food, like our very own chaat, but again it represents various regions of India for a wholesome experience Keep some space for dessert as the offerings take you on a nostalgic trip of all things delicious – Classic baked Alaska, brulees, sundaes, Gulab Bomb, apple pie, cheesecake and the likes.
You can visit this amazing bistro for breakfast items that includes multiple egg preparations, waffles and crepes that will satiate your cravings.
Beverages are well-curated. Try rare classic cocktails like Scottish Loch Ness from the 1920s or Father of Martini Martinez from 1860s or The Luigi, named after the owner of Embassy club in London. Also, for your tea or coffee break, Rewind is a perfect stop as the menu has 50 kinds of tea and coffee blends, each one unique and flavourful.
