Delhi SG Pipers showcased an impressive performance by their young players, defeating table-toppers JSW Soorma Hockey Club 2-0 in their Women’s Hockey India League match on Friday.
This victory marked Delhi’s first win of the league, with goals from Sangita Kumari (25th minute) and Deepika (47th minute), both scored through penalty corner conversions.
Sangita opened the scoring for Delhi in the league by converting a penalty corner, while Deepika doubled the lead with another penalty corner in the final quarter.
After losing their first two matches, Delhi SG Pipers came out determined and aggressive against the unbeaten JSW Soorma Hockey Club, who had won their opening two games.
Delhi dominated the game from the beginning, controlling possession in the first two quarters and creating more opportunities with eight penalty corners—two in the first quarter and six in the second. Sangita converted one of these to give her team the lead.

Trailing by a goal, JSW Soorma Hockey Club increased their intensity after halftime, dominating possession in the third quarter. However, Delhi’s solid defence denied them any clear chances.
In the third quarter, Delhi earned two penalty corners while Soorma created pressure with five set pieces but failed to capitalize.
Just two minutes into the final quarter, Deepika converted Delhi’s 10th penalty corner, sealing the 2-0 victory for her team.
