A missile-like object plunged into the Dal Lake—one of Srinagar’s iconic tourist destinations—following a series of loud explosions that jolted the city early Saturday morning, officials said.
Eyewitnesses reported plumes of smoke rising from the lake’s surface after the object hit the water. Security forces later recovered debris from the site, which is currently being analysed.
The incident occurred just hours after the Indian military reportedly foiled multiple drone attacks by Pakistan at several locations across the region late Friday night. According to officials, explosions were also heard near key installations, including the Srinagar airport.
In response to the blasts, sirens were sounded across the city. Officials further confirmed widespread power outages affecting Srinagar and large parts of the Kashmir Valley.
A second suspicious object was found in Lasjan, on the city’s outskirts, and is also under examination.
