New Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 25.8°C on Saturday, marginally below the season’s average by 0.7 degrees, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The weather office has predicted a generally cloudy sky accompanied by light rainfall through the day, with the maximum temperature likely to hover around 37°C.
Humidity levels in the capital stood at 65 per cent at 8:30 am, while air quality remained in the “moderate” category with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 179, as per data released by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
The CPCB classifies AQI readings from 0–50 as ‘good’, 51–100 as ‘satisfactory’, 101–200 as ‘moderate’, 201–300 as ‘poor’, 301–400 as ‘very poor’, and 401–500 as ‘severe’.
On Friday, the city recorded a maximum temperature of 36.7°C—2.6 degrees below the seasonal average—while the minimum settled at 25.7°C, slightly above normal by 0.6 degrees. Humidity levels fluctuated between 61 per cent and 48 per cent during the day.
The past week saw strong winds and rain uproot over 100 trees across the capital, raising alarms among environmentalists who have long warned about the consequences of unchecked urbanisation and the widespread concretisation around tree bases.
