The green body had sought responses from authorities, including the DDA, over the restoration of Satpula Lake in Khirki near Saket district court which was polluted due to sewage discharge from a nearby drain

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has expressed dissatisfaction with the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) for providing only “three photographs” to demonstrate that a south Delhi lake was cleaned. The tribunal has requested information on the current condition of the water body.

The NGT had previously sought responses from authorities, including the DDA, regarding the restoration of Satpula Lake in Khirki, near Saket district court, which had been polluted due to sewage discharge from a nearby drain.

“The DDA report states that, during an inspection on September 2, duckweed and algae were found on the lake’s surface. It mentions that the DDA took steps to clean the lake the following day and has only provided three photographs as evidence to show the lake is now clean, without offering any further reliable material,” stated the bench of NGT Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava and expert member A Senthil Vel.

In an order dated December 16, the NGT instructed the DDA to submit “relevant material” to indicate the current condition of the lake. The tribunal also expressed surprise at the DDA’s claim that the Rotary Club had cleaned the lake in just one day, adding, “Nothing is disclosed as to how the lake was cleaned in one day.”
