A man allegedly attacked his wife with a shaving blade during a quarrel over his alleged affair with a woman in northeast Delhi’s Sunder Nagri area, police said on Tuesday.
The accused, Majid Hussain (35), was arrested in connection with the alleged attempt to murder his wife, the police said, adding that the shaving blade used in the attack was also recovered.
The incident took place around 11 pm on September 13 following a quarrel between the couple at their residence in Sunder Nagri, they said.
According to the police, the woman told investigators that her husband was having an affair with another woman and frequently quarrelled with and assaulted her.
Around 15 days before the incident, she had gone to her parental home in Loni, along with their three children, following the repeated disputes, the police said.
Two days before the incident, Hussain and his father allegedly persuaded her to return home. However, on return, her husband started quarrelling, according to her statement.
During the quarrel on September 13, Hussain allegedly attacked her with a shaving blade, causing multiple injuries to her mouth and throat, the police said.
A PCR call was received at Nand Nagri police station around 11.40 pm regarding a woman allegedly being attacked on her neck by her husband. A police team reached the spot, but the injured woman had already been shifted to Rajiv Gandhi Hospital by police personnel.
Police met the victim at the hospital, where she was undergoing treatment, and recorded her statement.
An FIR was registered on September 14 under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (attempt to murder), and an investigation was initiated.
The forensic team inspected the crime scene and collected evidence, police said, adding that they subsequently apprehended Hussain.
During interrogation, the accused allegedly admitted his involvement in the incident, following which the shaving blade used in the attack was recovered at his instance, the police said.
