A suspected e-rickshaw battery blast triggered a massive fire in a godown in west Delhi’s Raghubir Nagar early Monday, leaving two persons dead, the Delhi Fire Service said.
The fire was reported at 4:42 am from a building located at Gurudwara Road in Raghubir Nagar, they said.
According to the fire department, the blaze broke out on the first floor of the building, which comprises a ground floor and four upper floors. Domestic articles stored there caught fire after the suspected blast in the e-rickshaw battery.
“Two persons sustained burn injuries in the incident and were rushed to the Guru Gobind Singh Hospital in Raghubir Nagar, where doctors declared them brought dead,” the fire department said.
Three water tenders and one water bowser were rushed to the spot after the fire was reported. The fire was brought under control at 5:25 am, a fire official said.
The exact circumstances leading to the battery blast and the fire are yet to be ascertained. Further details, including the identities of the deceased and the extent of damage to property, are awaited.
