A head constable of the Delhi Police sustained injuries in an alleged assault by four men after he stopped their two-wheeler to check its documents, police reported on Friday.
Kuldeep, a head constable stationed at Hauz Khas police station in south Delhi, sustained severe facial injuries and has been admitted to a hospital, according to authorities.
The purported incident took place at a police booth in the South Extension Part-II area on Friday afternoon.
“Head Constable Kuldeep and Head Constable Mukesh were on patrol duty at the South Extension Part-II market. Both were in plainclothes as part of a special drive ahead of the New Year celebrations,” a police official stated.
They noticed a man riding a motorcycle without a helmet and driving improperly in the market area. Upon observing that the two-wheeler was also producing excessive noise due to its modified silencer, the officers signaled the rider to stop and requested his driving license and registration certificate,” the official explained.
The rider, identified as Chayank Seelelan alias Addi (22), declined to present the documents, and the officers escorted him to the booth, another official mentioned.
Subsequently, Seelelan’s father, Anil Kumar, brother Tanishk Kumar, and cousin Badal Chaudhary arrived and began arguing with the officers for detaining him.
Anil Kumar went on to threaten the officers, claiming influential connections within the ministry and warning of severe repercussions, the official added.
Upon Kuldeep’s request for the necessary documents, the four men physically assaulted him.
Following the altercation, Anil Kumar, Tanishk Kumar, and Badal Chaudhary fled the scene, while Head Constable Mukesh managed to detain Seelelan. The police stated that legal actions against the accused would be pursued further. (With inputs from PTI)
