Rain in parts of Delhi, ‘yellow’ alert in some areas

Parts of Delhi witnessed rains on Monday morning, with the India Meteorological Department forecasting light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning across most areas of Delhi over the next couple of hours.

According to the IMD, gusty winds reaching 30-“40 kmph are likely during the spell, affecting areas including Noida, Ghaziabad, Bahadurgarh and adjoining regions.

The met office has also issued a ‘yellow’ alert for parts of the city till around 11:20 am, advising residents to remain cautious during thunderstorm activity.

The minimum temperature in the city was recorded at around 16 degrees Celsius, while the maximum is expected to hover near 30-32 degrees Celsius.

Humidity levels were moderate in the morning hours.

Meanwhile, Delhi’s air quality continued to remain in the ‘moderate’ category in morning with the average Air Quality Index (AQI) being clocked at 133 (moderate), according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

According to the CPCB, an AQI between 0 and 50 is considered ‘good’, 51 to 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 to 200 ‘moderate’, 201 to 300 ‘poor’, 301 to 400 ‘very poor’, and 401 to 500 ‘severe’.

Further, Delhi’s air quality is likely to remain in the ‘moderate’ category for the next few days, according to forecasts by the Air Quality Early Warning System (AQEWS) for Delhi.

Officials said light rain or drizzle may continue in several parts of the city later in the day, with cloudy skies prevailing.
