As temperatures rise across the city, Delhiites are facing the shift from winter to summer. With the mercury touching 30 degrees Celsius in the national capital, the need for effective skincare becomes paramount, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Patriot spoke to Dr Chandni Jain Gupta, Dermatologist at Elantis Healthcare to learn about summer skincare.

Skincare regimen

Dr Chandni advises using a face wash tailored to your skin type to combat the increased oiliness that often accompanies summer. She recommends opting for mild, alcohol-free cleansers.

Maintaining a consistent skincare routine is essential. Dr Chandni suggests gel-based products for dry skin and water-based products for oily skin. Regular cleansing, toning, and moisturising twice a day are key to keeping the skin fresh and clean.

Antioxidants for protection

Incorporating antioxidant serums into your routine can provide hydration and protect against environmental damage. The doctor recommends vitamin C serum for its antioxidant properties.

Hydration is key

Drinking plenty of water and using hydrating face masks are crucial for keeping the skin hydrated during the summer heat.

Exfoliation

Regular exfoliation, using a scrub appropriate for your skin type, helps remove dirt and oil, promoting healthy skin.

Sunscreen protection

Applying sunscreen with SPF 30-50 is essential for all skin types to guard against harmful UV rays, even for indoor activities.

Minimal Makeup

Dr Chandni advises against heavy makeup, which can hinder the skin’s ability to breathe in humid conditions. Instead, opt for lighter alternatives like tinted lip balm and moisturiser.

Moisturise wisely

Choosing a non-greasy moisturiser with added antioxidants and SPF can protect and nourish the skin.

Hydration from within

Staying hydrated with water, coconut water, and fresh juices, while also consuming fruits and vegetables with high water content, helps maintain skin health.

Avoid sugary drinks

Sugary beverages should be avoided as they offer no hydration benefits and can contribute to weight gain.

Breathable clothing

Wearing breathable fabrics like cotton and loose-fitting clothing helps prevent discomfort and excessive sweating.

Hygiene practices

Maintaining good hygiene with regular baths and following up with a skincare routine is crucial for healthy skin, particularly during the summer months.

With these expert tips, individuals can ensure their skin remains healthy and vibrant throughout the summer season.
