Here are seven refreshing, hydrating fruits and vegetables to keep you cool and healthy during scorching summer days


Delhi Heatwave: The national capital is experiencing humidity, which is influenced by several factors including the city’s geographical location, weather patterns, and urban environment.

AccuWeather reports the humidity at 47% with a wind speed of 45 km/h. Additionally, Delhi is expected to receive light rains this week.

With high humidity levels, there’s a risk of falling ill or suffering heatstroke, so it’s crucial to focus on your diet to stay cool and safe.

Experts recommend staying hydrated by consuming plenty of water and eating hydrating fruits and vegetables.

Patriot reached out to two health experts—Dr Javaid Iqbal Khan, a physician from J&K, and Nandini Chopra, a Delhi-based dietician—to learn about the fruits and vegetables one can consume to stay safe in these challenging conditions.

Lemon: Lemons contain about 35 milligrams of vitamin C, which is over half the amount needed in your daily diet. Vitamin C acts as an antioxidant, protecting cells from damage, aiding collagen production for skin health, facilitating iron absorption, and supporting the immune system.

Watermelon: With its high-water content, watermelon provides nutrients like lycopene, citrulline, and vitamins A and C. Research suggests it may boost heart health, reduce muscle soreness, and decrease inflammation.

Papaya: A tropical fruit rich in vitamins A and C, papaya also offers potassium, beta-carotene, and lycopene. It may provide benefits such as reduced inflammation, slowed Alzheimer’s progression, improved digestion, and cancer prevention.

Radish: Radish can help lower blood sugar levels and are a source of antioxidants that might protect against cancer and inflammation. They’re also rich in magnesium, potassium, and vitamin C.

Cucumber: With its high-water content, cucumber helps lower blood sugar, prevent constipation, and aid weight loss. It also supports cardiovascular, bone, and skin health, and may help fight diabetes and cancer.

Berries: Berries are rich in vitamins, minerals, and disease-fighting nutrients, reducing the risk of age-related conditions and aiding in weight loss and skin health.
