This National Jewel Day, indulge in the allure of diamonds without breaking the bank, thanks to the rising trend of lab-grown diamonds. These synthetic gems, also known as lab-grown or synthetic diamonds, are crafted in controlled laboratory environments, offering affordability and sustainability that resonate with today’s younger generations.

The Science Behind Lab-Grown Diamonds

Two primary methods bring lab-grown diamonds to life: HPHT (High Pressure, High Temperature) and CVD (Chemical Vapour Deposition). The HPHT method, the original technique, involves placing a diamond seed in carbon and subjecting it to extreme heat and pressure, mirroring the natural diamond formation process.

On the other hand, CVD, a more recent technology, simulates diamond formation in interstellar gas clouds with less pressure and smaller machines. Both methods result in diamonds with identical composition and physical properties to natural ones, undetectable to the naked eye or traditional diamond testers.

Distinguishing Characteristics

While lab-grown diamonds share many traits with natural ones, subtle differences exist. HPHT diamonds may exhibit a blue hue, colloquially termed the ‘blue nuance,’ and often display a magnetic response absent in CVD-grown diamonds. These nuances, however, only become apparent under specialised laboratory examination.

The Future of Diamond Industry

As lab-grown diamonds continue to gain popularity for their affordability, sustainability, and nearly indistinguishable qualities from natural diamonds, they represent a burgeoning segment of the jewelry market. With advancements in technology and increasing consumer demand, the era of lab-grown diamonds is poised to revolutionise the diamond industry landscape.

Ankur Jain, the founder of CVD Diamond Jewels in South Extension II, reflects on over a decade of success in the lab-grown diamond industry. “Since launching my company in 2012, sales have consistently surged,” Jain remarks. “Customers are thrilled to acquire the exact same quality diamonds at a fraction of the cost of natural ones.”

As one of North India’s oldest lab-grown diamond dealers, CVD Diamond Jewels prides itself on offering a diverse selection of diamonds at accessible price points. “Lab-grown diamonds are revolutionising the industry with a staggering 90 to 95 percent price differential compared to natural diamonds,” Jain explains. “And this affordability doesn’t compromise on quality or authenticity.”

Jain emphasises the growing importance of ethical and sustainable living, with lab-grown diamonds aligning perfectly with this ethos. “The future belongs to ethical and sustainable practices, and lab-grown diamonds epitomise this shift,” he asserts confidently.
