Artist Laxmi Gupta will host her upcoming art exhibition at Triveni Kala Sangam, titled “The Flower Always Sheds Its Fragrance.” The exhibition will open on July 12, 2024, at 5:30 PM. It will showcase a collection of her work that explores the intricate beauty of nature and the impact of flowers on the environment and well-being.
Laxmi Gupta, a self-trained artist, began showcasing her work in 2002. Her journey has traversed multiple mediums and themes, amalgamating pen and ink, watercolour, acrylic, paper, rice paper, and wax. She balances the controlled lines of a pen with the freedom of water.
“I start a painting with a seed of an idea, and then the painting itself takes over. It’s in the glitches and flaws that a new style is born,” says Laxmi.
“I initially focused on a series of faces and the concept of a ‘doppelgänger,’ which later evolved into abstraction where colour and balance became central. As a ‘colourist,’ my works vividly reflect my inner world and influence viewers’ moods and perceptions of reality,” said Laxmi.
Regarding her passion for nature, Laxmi said, “The importance of trees and flowering plants, especially in the context of climate change, cannot be overstated. During COVID-19, confined to my home, I dreamed of countryside walks, gathering wildflowers”.
“This inspired my series “A Flower Always Sheds Its Fragrance”, symbolising the selflessness of flowers that continue to spread joy and beauty regardless of circumstances,” she said.
The exhibition will feature new works reflecting Laxmi’s commitment to environmental themes and the relationship between nature and art. Her pieces encourage viewers to appreciate the beauty of flowers and their critical role in supporting essential ecosystems.
