The Dastkari Haat Samiti has launched its 40th annual Diwali Bazaar to celebrate and preserve India’s rich craft heritage while empowering artisans. The event, which began on September 26, will run until October 5, 2025, at Handloom Haat, Janpath, offering a vibrant platform for cultural exchange, craftsmanship, and festive shopping.
With a legacy spanning 40 years, the Dastkari Haat Samiti continues to champion the cause of artisans across India. Since its inception in 1986, it has conducted dozens of craft bazaars, created innovative platforms for rural and urban artisans, and brought traditional crafts into dialogue with modern sensibilities, preserving art forms that might otherwise have disappeared.
The bazaar features nearly 90 stalls, including a special cluster of jewel-toned displays evoking a glittering “jewel box” of craft, textiles, and art treasures. Visitors can explore a wide range of crafts, including textiles, handloom weaving, block prints, embroidery, bamboo and grass crafts, jewellery, ceramics, terracotta, and traditional art forms like Gond, Madhubani, and Sohrai paintings. Artisans from across India, including master craftsmen, are participating in the event, offering live demonstrations of their skills.

Visitors can witness live showcases of intricate handloom weaving from Kutch, Sohrai painting from Hazaribagh, Shibori art from Rajasthan, Sabai grass crafts from Odisha, and Kolhapuri chappals from Maharashtra. Unique crafts like wooden cutlery from Andhra Pradesh and terracotta creations from West Bengal are also on display, reflecting India’s diverse craft heritage.

Adding to the festive spirit are cultural performances, including Chhau dance led by Bhawani Kalindi from West Bengal, alongside food stalls serving Rajasthani cuisine. More than a marketplace, the bazaar fosters community, cultural exchange, and human connection, making it a must-visit destination for craft lovers, families, and festive shoppers ahead of Dussehra and Diwali.
