An exhibition ‘Ek Nayi Umang’ showcasing the artistic talent of underprivileged children will be inaugurated by artists Sakti Burman and Maïté Delteil, on June 1 at the Academy of Fine Arts & Literature. The exhibition, curated by the esteemed artist Arpana Caur, aims to provide a platform for these talented young individuals who have limited access to art education.
This workshop, organised by Amrita Kochhar of Nayan Naveli Gallery and Nanak Sai Charitable Trust, aims to provide underprivileged children with the opportunity to learn art.
Arpana Caur, an artist, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to showcase the children’s artwork. She mentioned that her mother, Ajeet Cour (Padmashri), has been running a free vocational school for underprivileged children since 1977, entirely self-funded. Arpana Caur views this exhibition as a significant milestone for the children, their parents, and their friends.
“The Academy of Fine Arts and Literature has generously offered the exhibition space without charging any fees, including electricity,” she said.
Amrita Kochhar, the founder of Nayan Naveli Gallery and Nanak Sai Trust, feels privileged to support children eager to learn art but lacking the financial means or opportunities to do so. She expressed her commitment to this noble cause and sought blessings from everyone to continue providing art education to children without financial resources.
“The collaboration between Nayan Naveli Gallery, Nanak Sai Trust, and the Academy of Fine Arts and Literature has made it possible to offer these workshops bi-monthly, aiming to help children fulfill their artistic aspirations,” Kochhar said.
