Shilpa Raizada, the famous television actress of Ye Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai fame, is popularly known by her first name Shilpa. She has performed in many television serials, two of which got her into the limelight: Ye Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai and Zee TV’s Jodha Akbar. The popular TV serial is currently running on Star Plus, and has notched up 2,671 episodes. It’s about an Udaipur-based Rajasthani family and is produced by Rajan Shahi’s Director Cut production.

Hailing from a conservative Bhopal family, Shilpa learnt to dance in her childhood, and participated in many dance competitions. She started her TV innings with Krishnaben Khakhrawala and went on to do a negative role in Hamari Devrani.
Recently, Shilpa was in Delhi for an event connected with Luv Kush Ram Leela, to be staged during Dussehra, in which she will be playing Sita’s role. The Delhi-based Luv Kush Ram Lila Committee, established in 1979, is known for including celebrities, actors from the film industry and even politicians in its cast.

Are you satisfied being a big name on the small screen, or are you trying for the big screen?

Yes, I am very well-known in the television industry. But, seriously, I have not tried for roles in films. I am quite comfortable working in television right now.

How did you get Sita’s role in Luv Kush Ram Leela?

The Luv Kush Ram Leela Committee directly approached me after watching my excellent performances in various television serials. I am very fortunate to get Sita’s role. I want to give my best and work hard to satisfy the audience.

How much time do you have to prepare yourself?

I am still shooting for Ye Rishta and my schedule is very tight. I cannot take leave or spare time. But I’ll take a short 10-day break to rehearse for Luv Kush Ram Leela.

Don’t you feel playing Sita is a challenge for any actress?

Yes, you are absolutely right but then, every role is different. I have to work hard to get the characters right.

Is your family in the film industry?

Nobody in my family is in films. I am the only one who got into this glamorous profession. But I am very happy to become part of this silver screen where my audience and fans love my work.

Are you satisfied with what you have achieved so far?

I am not satisfied! It’s true that, by the grace of God, I am loved by my fans. But if a stage comes when you feel you are satisfied, then everything will be spoilt. There will be no desire.
