Heavy rain lashed parts of Delhi-NCR on Friday morning, leaving commuters stranded in long traffic snarls and several stretches waterlogged, while metro services on a key section of the Yellow Line were disrupted during peak office and school hours.
Several areas, including Chhatarpur, Sangam Vihar, Moti Bagh and Lajpat Nagar, reported heavy waterlogging, slowing down traffic movement across the capital. A long queue of vehicles was seen from Badarpur to Ashram, causing inconvenience to office-goers and school buses.
Traffic police officials said congestion was reported on the Delhi-Noida-Direct (DND) flyway, Mathura Road, Vikas Marg, ISBT, Geeta Colony and Rajaram Kohli Marg. “Due to rain and waterlogging in some pockets, traffic movement was slow. Our personnel have been deployed to streamline the situation and assist commuters,” a Delhi Traffic Police officer said.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said thunderstorms with rain were likely through the day. At 8.30 AM, the relative humidity stood at 92 per cent, pointing to a humid day ahead. The minimum temperature was recorded at 26.2 degrees Celsius, 0.3 degrees below normal, while the maximum is expected to settle around 34 degrees Celsius.

According to IMD data, rainfall varied across Delhi in the past 24 hours — Safdarjung recorded 13.4 mm, Palam 6.2 mm, Lodhi Road 9.8 mm, Ridge 1.8 mm and Aya Nagar 29.3 mm.
Meanwhile, Delhi’s air quality index (AQI) stood in the “moderate” category at 110 at 9 am, as per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). An AQI between 101 and 200 falls in the moderate range, while 201 to 300 is considered poor.
