Nayan Naveli Gallery has unveiled an exhibition titled ‘Journey of Love, Faith, and Inspiration’ showcasing the artworks of Sakti Burman and Maïté Delteil. The exhibition, which began on November 18, 2023, is set to continue its artistic extravaganza until March 1, 2024.

Curated by the Amrita Kochhar, the founder of Nayan Naveli Gallery, the exhibition is a testament to the enduring partnership between Sakti Burman and Maïté Delteil. Featuring an exquisite collection of their artworks, the showcase presents a narrative that transcends time, embodying the evolution of their artistic journey.

Amrita Kochhar, Founder of Nayan Naveli Gallery and curator of the show, expressed gratitude for the collaboration with Sakti Burman and Maïté Delteil, said, “We feel incredibly fortunate to present this exhibition featuring the diverse collections of Sakti Burman and Maïté Delteil”.

“Additionally, we’re delighted to showcase the works of other esteemed artists such as Nandan Purkayastha, Maya Burman, Suman Chandra, Ranjita Kant, and Krishnendu Porel, enriching this exhibition with their exceptional talent,” Kochhar said.

Regarding their collaborative exhibition, Sakti Burman and Maïté Delteil shared their perspective, stating, “This show is not your usual exhibition; it aims to illustrate the lifelong partnership we’ve shared. From our early days at art school in Paris in 1956, where we painted similar subjects side by side, to evolving into the ‘Sakti Burman’ and ‘Maïté Delteil’ known today, our journey has been intertwined.”

Reflecting on their artistic evolution, they further explained, “Even during periods like Maïté’s exploration of ‘surrealism’ in the 1970s and Sakti’s unconventional depictions of Ravanna’s heads, our artistic discussions centered on renowned painters like Titian, Botticelli, Da Vinci, Rembrandt, and Michelangelo, while sketching together. These interactions honed our craft, shaping us into ‘Sakti Burman’ and ‘Maïté Delteil’.”

Speaking about their initiative to support budding artists, they added, “In 2017, amid Europe’s challenging economic climate, we sought to create opportunities for European buyers by initiating small watercolour works. This endeavour led us to invite five painters – Suman Chandra, Nandan Purkayastha, Ranjita Kant, Krishnendu Porel, and Maya Burman – to join this artistic movement and become part of this exhibition.”

The artists also expressed their newfound connection with Amrita Kochhar and Nayan Naveli Gallery, sharing, “Prior to our meeting with Amrita, we hadn’t known about her or the gallery. However, upon learning about Sukhlal, our talented cook, she immediately proposed showcasing his works in an exhibition, demonstrating her support and generosity.”
